The
first step in any image processing is always transferring a colour photo
into digital data. A digitized colour image normally consists of 1024
by 860 pixels, each with 24 bits of colour depth. Non compressed these
take up to 2 megabyte of disk space. In industrial applications with
frequent measurements (e.g. high throughput screening HTS)very high
loads of data can accumulate in very short time - so much data ordinary
computer systems cannot handle this amount. Therefore, LemnaTec provides
a complete system solution with ready configured database server and
RAID hard disk controller (19"). Only this guarantees storing,
refinding and most important: data safety with backup systems for all
these enormous amounts of data.
Another of LemnaTecs developments concerning databases is our
Virtual Laboratory. The Virtual Laboratory was consequently derived
from the handling of databases in the field of biotesting. If you work
in LemnaTecs Virtual Laboratory, the database is physically present
on LemnaTecs database servers to which, as a registered client,
you have access through a web interface. There you can compare your
results with other tests done by the community of users and researchers
in the field and store your one standardized results of biotesting and
so increase the volume of the important statistic background in biotesting
more and more in every session. But not only results can be handled
in the Virtual Laboratory, working in this routine the user might employ
on his side of the biotest procedure only the simplest machine without
local intelligence to collect his testdata. Then he has these raw data
handled, analysed and statistically evaluated in LemnaTecs servers,
providing him with the results through the web, giving him best opinion
and validity and finally adding his experiences likewise to the statistic
background of the scientific community.
Of course, there is no care about software and updates in the Virtual
Laboratory because all the programs do their work on the main server
only. This reduces the costs of biotesting enormously because the user
can do without the highend processing power and memory advanced image
processing and modern biostatistics need. So, in the Virtual Laboratory
biotesting becomes available even for smallest labs and occasional users.
